Sibenik was not in our plan when we first traced the roadmap for our Croatian journey. But Varazdin was not either and turned out to be such a great discovery!

We were leaving Zadar that morning, heading for Krka National Park, when my partner said we could stop for a couple of hours in this town called Sibenik that he had heard good things about from a co-worker and that is located less than 20km from Krka park.

“YES, LET’S GO THERE TOO”, I said right away 🙂 always so excited to see new places.

Arbanasi, a Bulgarian village build from stone

Arbanasi is a beautiful village perched on a high plateau, only 4 kilometers away from Veliko Tarnovo town.

It is a good weekend stop for those who need a couple of days of relax-time in nice hotels or guest houses and enjoy nature and the beautiful countryside and the good food.

Otherwise, if you are the active type of tourist, you can see all of it in just a few hours.

OK, OK … Veliko Tarnovo and Plovdiv were the shining stars of our road trip in June, no doubt about that, but we found a few other hidden gems often missed by tourists.

The first ones are the Rock Hewn churches from Basarbovo and Ivanovo, less that 20 km away from the Romanian Border, in Russe area.

Rasnov is one of those places that will stimulate your imagination with the beautiful setting and the stories from medieval times, when the Romanian lands were bruised by the invaders.

We visited it on the 1st of May. But we almost missed the place! We had spent the weekend near Bran area, but because it had been raining all night long, the first plan was to go back straight to Bucharest. However, the late morning got some warm rays of sun and that changed our minds. I’m sooo glad that happened!!!

Munster is the town we have traveled the most outside Romania. Once a year in the past nine years, and the more I get to know it, the more I love it.

We stayed only one day in Zadar but we managed it pretty well. We got up early in the morning, had a tasty breakfast, got our sunglasses and sunscreen lotions and went straight to Nin beach, 10 km away from the town. It was the 4th day in Croatia already, and we were dying to finally get to those crystal waters and chill in the sun. There are other more spectacular beaches in Croatia, but I still enjoyed the Nin lagoon a lot. Before the sun became waaay too hot and dangerous, we got back to our b&b and prepared ourselves for the long walks in the old town.

PUGLIA – my initial plan and the bucket list before the trip

We celebrate summer right from the first month, with a one week trip to Italy’s seaside. My friend, Patricia, came up with the idea to go to Bari and while at first I was reluctant in engaging in the trip – just because that’s me, a procrastinator when having to decide something – now I cannot wait for it! And the excitement grew exponentially since I had started to do research of the region and saw how many wow wow WOW places there are: the towns, the landscape, the history and cultural legacy and delicious Italian cuisine and then natural parks and blue flag beaches, all bundled in Puglia, the high heel on Italy’s map.
