[RO]Rezumat de călătorie:

• Restaurantele deschise pentru petrecerea de Revelion își închieie activitatea până la miezul nopții sau au program cel mult până la ora 01:00-02:00 dimineața.
• Budapesta nu organizează focuri de artificii de Revelion, dar lumea iese în stradă și sărbătorește cu șampanie, multă veselie și pocnitori.
• Târgurile de Crăciun au din belşug mai ales mâncare grasă și multe produse cu carne la fel cum ne-am obișnuit să găsim deja și pe la târgurile de la noi.
• Budapesta este cunoscută și pentru celebrele băi termale; sunt frumoase dar şi aglomerate în perioada aceasta și destul de scumpe (17.5 EUR biletul la băile Szechenyi). Achiziționează-ți biletele online ca să scapi mai repede de cozile lungi.
• Trebuie să iei măcar o pauză de gustare sau cafea în numeroasele restaurantele-bistro fermecatore din zona centrală, de la parterul clădirilor cu mix de arhitectură nouă și veche.
• Budapesta își respectă și își promovează frumos simbolurile naționale. Parlamentul și Basilica Sf. Stefan sunt cele mai înalte clădiri de aici, având 96 m înălțime, pentru că 96 reprezintă pentru ei un numar important: în 896 s-a format vechiul regat al Ungariei, iar cladirea Parlamentului a fost construită pentru a celebra milenarul din 1896.

[EN]Travel summary:

• For the New Year’s Eve celebration the restaurants are opened until 01:00-02:00 am and many of them close their doors even before midnight.
• In Budapest, they don’t organize a fireworks show for the New Year’s Eve, but the merry locals and tourists go out in the streets to celebrate the event with a glass of Champagne and fire-crackers.
• The Christmas markets are mostly full of food, greasy, heavy, fatty foods just like we find nowadays in our Christmas markets.
• Budapest is also known for its thermal and mineral baths that are beautiful but also very crowded this time of the year and quite expensive (17.5 EUR/ticket). You should buy the tickets online and skip the long queues.
  
• While in Budapest, take a break for a coffee or a quick meal in one of the many cafes or bistrot-restaurants that you can find in the inner circle  of the city. They are cozy and intimate and they are located at the first floor of beautiful buildings.
• The Hungarian people promote their national symbols. The Parliament and the St. Stephan Basilica are the tallest buildings in Budapest with a height of 96m. This number is of great importance to them because in 896 the Kingdom of Hungary was created and the Parliament was erected to celebrate  1000 year of existence in 1896.

[RO] Din nou ne-a luat pe nepregătite finalul de an – uau, deja a mai trecut unul? – şi iarăşi nu ne-am organizat nimic pentru noaptea de Revelion. Norocul nostru că avem prieteni care ne scot uneori din amorţeală şi astfel am ajuns să ne luăm la început de decembrie biletele de avion şi cazarea pentru Budapesta. Eu cu Rareș am mai ajuns pe aici în urmă cu vreo 5 ani de zile, dar pe timp de vară şi doar pentru 2 zile, aşa că ideea Budapestei sub farmecul luminilor de iarnă ne-a încântat.

Pentru noaptea de Revelion a fost la fel de palpitant, pentru că nu aveam nimic planificat cu 3 zile înainte de plecare. S-a ocupat Rareş de partea aceasta, a trimis multe emailuri la restaurante şi a primit înapoi aproape la fel de multe răspunsuri “Ne pare rău, totul este ocupat”.

Dar am reuşit să găsim 4 locuri libere la restaurantul Le Ruben. Preţul meniului de Revelion a fost 47.5 EUR, un preţ decent pentru un restaurant în centrul Budapestei, cu review-uri bune şi pe TripAdvisor.

[EN]: And once again we were taken by surprise by the end of the year – wow, another one has already passed? – and again we didn’t have anything organized for the New Year’s Eve. We were lucky that some of our friends helped us to snap out of the apathy and early December we took plane tickets and accommodation for Budapest. Rares and I have already visited it 5 years ago, but it was summer and we only stayed here for 2 days, so the idea to see it under the winter’s charm was very appealing.

To organize the New Year’s Eve was as exciting, because we did not have anything booked 3 days before leaving. Rares took the lead this time and he sent many emails to restaurants and got back almost as many “We’re sorry, everything is booked”. He somehow managed to find a table for 4 in the Le Ruben restaurant. The price of 47.5 EUR for one person is quite good considering its location in the center of Budapest and many good reviews on TripAdvisor.

[RO] Masa de revelion a fost sofisticată, cu multe feluri de mâncare pentru cele 4 ore pe care le-am petrecut stând doar pe scaun. Dacă eşti din România, unde se consideră că noaptea dintre ani e cea mai lungă şi petreci şi dansezi până îţi rupi încălţările sau îţi uzezi şosetele, depinde unde alegi să te zbengui, să stai doar la masă e neobişnuit, dar a fost o seară frumoasă chiar şi aşa, relaxantă, cu muzică şi mâncare bună şi companie placută. Citeam de curând că Budapesta a devenit celebră pentru petreceri, mai ales cele de final de burlăcie, şi viaţa de noapte, aşa că dacă vrei neapărat astfel de atmosferă şi de Revelion ai cu siguranţă de unde alege, dar trebuie să îţi organizezi din timp rezervările.

Masa s-a încheiat în jurul orei 23:30 şi ne-am îndreptat spre promenada Dunării, laolaltă cu toată suflarea din Budapesta. Trotuarele, spaţiile verzi şi străzile erau blocate de atâţia oameni. Am stat şi noi aproape de Podul Lanţurilor, în aşteptarea focului de artificii de la miezul nopţii.

[EN]: New Year’s dinner was fancy enough, with so many dishes that were coming and going in a little more than 4 hours that we spent only sitting at the table. If you’re from Romania, where the custom is to party all night long and to dance until your shoes have fallen apart it is unusual to just eat and drink. But the night was still pretty because we were relaxed, the food was tasty and the music was nice and the company was nice also. I was recently reading that Budapest has become known for parties and its buzzing night life and that it is a favorite destination for the bachelor parties, so if you’re after that kind of fun, you have a lot to pick from, but you need to organize your bookings earlier.

We left the restaurant at 23:30 and got to the Danube’s Promenade, together with all the other people from Budapest. The sidewalks and the streets were blocked by so many people. We found our free spot close to the famous Chain Bridge and waited for the fireworks show at midnight.

[RO] Miezul nopţii a venit, dar nu şi artificiile, pentru că aici nu au tradișia aceasta.  Mi-ar fi plăcut să văd măcar câteva artificii oglindindu-se în apele liniştite ale Dunării.

Oamenii sunt veseli însă, la fel ca peste tot, se felicită, cântă, se îmbrăţişează, se îmbrâncesc, dau cu petarde, sparg sticlele uneori; nimic deosebit faţă de spiritul petrecăreţ cu care suntem obişnuiţi şi noi de acasă.

Ne-am plimbat apoi pe jos până la apartamentul unde eram cazaţi şi am continuat noaptea cu câteva beri, vin şi un film pe care nu am fost în stare să il terminăm, pentru că oboseala de la plimbări şi frig şi-a spus cuvântul repede. Dau şi poză cu sufrageria din apartamentul cool unde am stat. Clădirea se află în zona centrală, la nici 5 minute distanţă de Catedrala Sf. Stefan, într-unul din cele mai animate cartiere din Budapesta unde găsesti pub-uri şi restaurante la orice colţ de stradă. Nu a fost ieftin, dar o viaţă avem şi noi, nu?

[EN]: Midnight arrived soon but the fireworks did not, because they don’t have this tradition in Hungary. Still, I would have loved to see only a few of them mirrored in the Danube’s water.

People are merry as everywhere else, they congratulate and hug themselves but they are also very loud, break their glasses, throw fire-crackers so nothing new comparing to Bucharest New Year’s vibe.

We then took a walk until we got home, to this beautiful apartement we were staying, and we continued the night with a few beers, some wine and a movie that we were not able to finish because we were all so tired. I insertes a picture with the apartment because it was so cool and definitely made the stay more enjoyable. It was located in the inner ring in Budapest, that is the city center area, in one of the most animated neighborhoods where you’ll find pubs at every corner. It was not a cheap stay, but well, you only get to live once:).

[RO] Cu ce ne-am ocupat timpul în celălalte zile?

• Târgurile de Craciun: le-am gasit în piaţa din faţa Catedralei Sf. Stefan şi de-a lungul cunoscutei Fashion Street. Multe căsuţe de lemn, multe lumini, multă lume pentru care se pregăteşte multă mâncare. Bucătăria lor, ca şi a noastră, este destul de grasă iar ingredientul de bază este carnea de porc. Dar dacă ai mâncat prea mult ia un gât de Unicum, băutură spirtoasă tradiţională. Băutura aceasta mi-a amintit mult de Bitter Suedez. Reţeta conţine 40 de plante medicinale şi a fost creată de către doctorul familiei regale pentru problemele digestive ale regelui. Subsemnata a fost aşa împresionată încât şi-a mai luat 3 sticle şi pentru acasă. Dar cei mai mulţi sunt de altă părere…uitaţi-vă aici.

 

• Parlamentul – vă recomand şi vizita cu ghid la interior, Catedrala Sf. Stefan, Castelul Buda, Bastionul Pescarilor şi Biserica Matthias, Citadela – de unde ai cea mai frumoasă panoramă a oraşului – sunt toate obiective pe care nu trebuie să le ratezi. La fel şi Piaţa Eroilor şi Castelul Vajdahunyad, care seamănă cu Castelul Corvinilor de la noi.
• Băile Termale: Budapesta este capitala cu cele mai multe băi termale iar Baile Széchenyi sunt printre cele mai cunoscute. Am ajuns şi noi aici, dar dacă vrei să îţi iei cabină unde să te schimbi, nu doar dulăpior, cozile sunt foarte mari. Mai simplu este să achizitionezi online biletele şi scapi de cozile de la casierii, dar rămâne să aştepţi la cozile de la cabine dacă nu eşti norocos să găseşti libere din prima. Clădirea băilor este foarte frumoasa şi merită să faci o vizită până aici doar pentru a le admira pe dinafară. Despre băile Therme din Bucureşti mi s-a povestit că arată mai bine, sunt mai mari, aerisite, ai multe variante de agrement, dar eu nu am ajuns încă la ele aşa că nu le pot compara prea bine.
• Insula Margareta: pe timp de iarnă nu am găsit nimic spectaculos şi nici foarte ingrijită nu era. E posibil ca primăvara şi vara să aiba alt aspect, dar iarna mai bine îţi aloci timpul pentru vizitarea alor locuri. A fost însă foarte amuzant să ne plimbăm şi să ne întrecem cu bicicletele – buburuze!
• Cafeneaua New York este o bijuterie şi zic ei că este cea mai frumoasă cafenea din lume. Nu ştiu dacă este aşa dar cu siguranţă este cea mai frumoasă cafenea în care eu am intrat. Preţurile nu sunt la fel de frumoase, dar plăteşti localul şi muzica live de pian şi vioara. Aici am luat micul dejun în ultima dimineaţă din anul 2016, care nu a fost spectaculos dar mai ales cafeaua nu a fost bună, când tu te astepţi ca măcar aceasta să fie de calitate, că doar eşti într-o cafenea. Cu toate acestea, nu am niciun regret, pentru că măcar ochii şi urechile mele au plecat de acolo extrem de fericiţi.

 

[EN]: Where did we spend all the other days?

• Christmas markets: they were located in the market place that lies before St. Stephan’s Cathedral and along the famous Fashion Street. Their kitchen specific just like ours is based on fatty foods, meat and mostly pork meat. If you exaggerated the eating part, you can take a shot of Unicum, that is a traditional Hungarian spirituous liquor made of over 40 plants. It resembles the Swedish Bitters, and it was created by a famous doctor of the royal family for the digestive problems of the king. I was so impressed by it that I even bought 3 bottles to take back home with me. But somehow, not everybody enjoys it so much … check some reactions here.
• Parliament Building – fully recommend the guided tour in the inside, St. Stephan Cathedral, the Buda Castle, Fisherman’s Bastion, Mathias Church and the Citadel – are all the main attractions that you must see. Add to the list the Heroes Square and the Vajdahunyad Castle that looks a bit with our Corvin Castle.
• Thermal Baths: Budapest is the capital of thermal and mineral baths and very famous are the Széchenyi baths. If you want a full cabin where you can change, not just a small locker to leave your belongings, you will have to wait to long queues for the tickets. The best option is to buy them online. The building is beautiful just to see it from the outside. I was told that our Therme baths from Bucharest are bigger, with many places to bath and with many things to do but I cannot make an honest comparison of them because I have never got to go here.
• Margaret Island, on the Danube river is not the greatest park you’ll see. At least during the Winter it looks empty and abandoned. I think it looks a lot better in Spring or Summer, but if you’re in Budapest in winter you can see some better places in your spare time. We still managed to have some fun here, renting and racing the lady-bugs bicycles.
• The New York cafe is a real gem and they say it’s the most beautiful cafe in the world. I do not know about that, but it’s definitely the most beautiful I have ever entered. The prices aren’t as nice, but you are paying also for the place, the history and the live music of piano and violin. We had our breakfast here in the last day of 2016 but this was average meal and even more surprising was that the coffee was not good and considering that the place is a Cafe Restaurant you would expect this to be good, to say the least. I will however not complain about the place, because the atmosphere and the interior design are beautiful.
